UPI is a revolutionary payment mode that allows monetary transactions at lightning speed. Lately, with the advent of UPI, you have to carry a mobile phone to make a quick money transfer. All you need to do is to have a smartphone and link your bank accounts to your mobile number.

Whenever we hear the term UPI, we doubt whether we need a debit card to make a UPI payment. Initially, customers need to have a debit card to activate the account. You will receive an OTP for UPI activation. This requirement prevented many bank customers without a debit card from accessing UPI.

Do You Need A Debit Card For UPI Payments?

The NPCI introduced the UPI digital payment system in 2016 to make India a digitally strong nation. The users had to download the App, log into it and provide a debit card number, expiry date of their cards and CVV to complete the registration process.

After completing this process, users can link any number of bank accounts to the UPI app. They can receive and send money and download statements without sharing financial information. The users with bank accounts but no debit cards found it hard to use the UPI app even though they needed it for the registration process only. You can now register the UPI ID using an Adhar card and start using it!

Process Of Using Adhar Card For UPI Registration:

Download the UPI App to your mobile. The first step is to choose a PIN on the UPI app. Opt for the set PIN option from the settings. Click verification through the Adhar card option. It will help you complete the process without having a debit card.

Feed the first six digits of the Adhar card when it asks to complete the verification process. Your bank and UIDAI will send OTP. You may proceed to set your PIN to start using UPI. Once you complete this process, you will receive a confirmation message.

Requirements To Complete The Registration Process?

Registration is a simple process that needs following requirements:

  1. Smartphone.
  2. Bank account with a mobile number linked to the account.
  3. Adhar card and the same linked to your bank account.

How Safe Is It To Link UPI With An Adhar Card?

We live in a digital world, and using digital payment interfaces to complete a payment is common lately. Previously, customers used to use credit cards to complete payments. These plastic cards slid inside a wallet very conveniently. Now, UPI has come into play as a safe mode of payment. UPI PIN adds security to your financial transactions. Using an Adhar card to set up a PIN adds double-layer protection.

Wrapping up

The unified payment interface is one of the payment methods the NPCI has introduced recently. It helps users make cashless and safe payments within the country. Registering a UPI ID with an Adhar card makes it safer. After completing this process, you may use the UPI app to make seamless UPI money transfers. You don’t need a debit card to complete the registration process. The NPCI has added an option to register using an Adhar card to simplify the process.
